چکیده

The mechanism of light reflection in blood, which is the underlying principle for the use of fiber optics in in vivo densitometry or oximetry, was investigated theoretically and experimentally using bovine blood. The results are summarized as follows. 1) Theoretically, the intensity of light reflected, I, was represented by a formula: I=lo•~e-2KC•~[(1-P)•~r•~a, where I, K, C, p, and a were incident light, extinction coefficient of plasma, hematocrit and reflexibility of blood, respectively; r is the length of the side of a cube when the red blood cell was assumed as of cubic form. 2) Light reflection was proved to take place only in the region several microns apart from the tip of fiber optics. 3) Reflected light was increased with increase in hematocrit up to 60% but was decreased with further increase in hematocrit. This phenomenon was interpreted as being due to so-called `shading effect' resulting from rescattering of reflected light by red blood cells. 4) a was calculated as 3.4%. Low reflexibility played a major part in decrement of in cident light.

Implementing a Practical Light Transmission System in order to Lighting an Office with Zero Energy Consumption

One of the recently considered applications of fiber optic, in their usage in building lighting systems. In this research, in order to reduce energy consumption, by transmission of sun light from the roof to the desired place (i.e. an office), the required standard luminance is produced. The main aims of this research are :1. Reduction of energy consumption.2. Making the place compatible with t...

Thermal Effects Study on Stimulated Brillouin Light Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fiber

we investigate the temperature-dependences of the Brillouin frequency shift in three different kind of single-mode fibers using a heterodyne method for sensing temperature. Positive dependences coefficients of 0.77, 0.56 and 1.45MHz/0C are demonstrated for 25 km long single-mode fiber, 10 km long non-zero dispersion shifted fiber and 100 m photonic crystal fiber, respectively. The results indic...

Investigation of the Effect of Electron Beam Different Doses on Optical Dissipation in Fiber Optic

Measurement of ionizing radiation in various fields, such as environmental safety, industrial detection processes, radiation protection and medical is very important. Radiation dosimetry plays an important role in determining the amount of energy absorbed and the effects of radiation. Recent optical fiber sensors have been shown to be radiation dosimeters. Our goal here is to investigate the ef...

Tapered Optical Fiber Coated with ZnO Nanorods for Detection of Ethanol Concentration in Water

This work presents ZnO nanorods coated multimode optical fiber sensing behavior in response to ethanol solution. The sensor operates based on modulation of light intensity which arises from manipulation of light interaction with the ambient environment in sensing region. For this purpose, two steps are experimentally applied here; etching and then coating fiber with ZnO nanorods to provide stro...
